TodayTix

TodayTix is one of the easiest ways I've found to get discounted tickets to Broadway and beyond. The Company was founded by Brian Fenty and Merritt Baer. Both know Broadway well - Baer produced the Tony Award winning "The Death of a Salesman" among others while Fenty  produced the 2009 Oleanna starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles.

The beauty of TodayTix is that you can purchase your tickets on your phone - no standing in lines on the hot pavement in July - you can just click a few buttons to get discount tickets to your favorite shows. Depending on the show, you can purchase tickets anywhere from two weeks before a show to two months, and the app will show you what days are cheapest so depending on your flexibility you can get significantly discounted tickets.

That being said, TodayTix discounts usually aren't as significant as the better known TKTS booths in New York. However for me, the ability to plan what I'm going to see further in advance is significant. TodayTix won't allow you to pick specific seats, but you can chose a tier -ie orchestra, mezzanine, etc - to customize the price you're willing to pay and the spot you want.

Depending on the show, TodayTix will either email you your tickets, have them waiting at the box office, or meet you thirty minutes before the show begins to hand you your ticket. I've done all three and never had any trouble. The app provides you with a photo of where to meet your TodayTix representative if picking up your tickets from them, and they have always been fast and helpful for me.

It is worth checking the price of the tickets on the app with any discounts the theatre may have - for off Broadway productions you can sometimes get other, better discounts (student/under 30/senior/etc) than the app offers. But - for some key shows they have great discounts and give you the ability to plan ahead of time.
