Broadway Bathrooms: The August Wilson

The August Wilson Theatre opened in 1925 as the Guild Theatre and has been home to over 4,000 Broadway Performances. In 2005 it was renamed after the playwright August Wilson, who won a Tony in 1987 for Fences.

The theatre is currently home to Mean Girls, which has a 15 minute intermission. The theatre has one main bathroom on the ground floor of the theatre. It is a flight of stairs down from the orchestra, and two flights away from the mezzanine. There is also an accessible restroom on the orchestra level.

Pros:

-The bathroom is big and the fabulous staff makes sure the line moves quickly

-You can absolutely get to the bathroom and back to your seat from anywhere in the theatre....if you're smart about it

-Check out the fun Mean Girls bathroom decor!

Cons:

-One bathroom for a theatre full of Mean Girls means the line is long....very long

-Get ready to run down lots of stairs to get to the bathroom in time

How to make sure you get there in time? The good news is that this theatre knows that its clientele (largely young women) are going to RUN to the bathroom and boy are they prepared. Not only do they have staff directing folks - major props to every lady theatre employee who's had to shout "KEEP IT MOVING LADIES" roughly 30-80 times in a 15 minute intermission - but they also have a  large, pink (of course) sign showing where the line ends so folks can line up quickly.

If you head straight to the bathroom at intermission you'll have no trouble getting to the bathroom and back to your seat - but plan ahead. As soon as the lights come on at the break (NOT BEFORE) head downstairs and look for the pink sign.

Decide halfway through intermission you need the restroom? Be prepared not to make it back for the start of the second act.

Where to sit?

The Orchestra level is certainly the best for restroom access, and the further back the better. The stairs are on stage right, so to be extra safe you may consider getting seats on that side (Two Digit Odd Seats or high Three Digit Seats). Aisle seats are also very helpful to make sure you can get out of your seat right away.
